Contentment or Santosha is illusive for most because we place more emphasis on deadline driven agendas and ROI then on how we feel. We’re taught at a young age to cast away what is true and authentic to us as individuals and instead we’re encouraged to follow the status quo. We start to grasp for objects outside of ourselves (object referral) hoping they’ll bring us happiness (e.g. new job title, new house, newborn baby). And the fear of not being/doing enough (scarcity mindset), or not being able to conceive a child of our own, shrouds us in a cloak of lacking and comparison. When we operate in this manner, our ability to feel content is minimal, fleeting at best.
You’re probably asking yourself “how do I cultivate contentment while trying to get pregnant?”
Our recommendation is to cultivate self-awareness and practice gratitude. Here’s how to put this into action:
1) Gratitude helps us move from a place of appreciation and there’s more where that came from. Start by writing down 10 things you’re grateful for today. Repeat this exercise for 30 days.
2) Notice the moments when you feel lighter, freer, and joy. Those special moments are glimmers of contentment! Make a list of what you are doing, who you are with, and where you are in those moments. Each time you feel like you’re flying through the clouds, jot it down. Then squeeze more of that joyful goodness into your day-to-day.
Practice both of these activities daily to experience the greatest impact. After 30 days or so, check back in with yourself and notice if things have shifted towards contentment. We certainly hope they have. We wish you the best of luck!
