Indulgence doesn’t need to be naughty or expensive, and when done in moderation, it can be part of a healthy life. Everyone has a different idea of what is fun, and sometimes we need some fresh ideas on how to enjoy ourselves. Here are our favorite ways at Orchid Experience to indulge ourselves:

Unplug from communication

We’re tethered continuously to other people via chatting applications and social media platforms on top of the relentless contact via email, phone, and text. Unplugging entirely from the world can actually cause more stress and anxiety for some people. If this is you, choose one method where someone can contact you, if there is an emergency, and turn the rest off for a few hours. Now that your communication is turned off, now what? That’s up to you. Grab a book (electronic or paper form), watch a movie, take a hot bath, or cook and enjoy a meal.

Massage

This might be super cliche, but there are so many reasons why a good massage is the perfect indulgence. You don’t need to go to a fancy salon and pay a ton of money, you can get a quick chair massage at your local mall, or ask your friend or partner for a 10-minute foot or head and neck massage. Massage can help alleviate pain, increase flexibility and range of motion, and with the right level of pressure, it can help you relax and destress.

Playing games

Part of doing something indulgent is to provide a healthy distraction from everyday stresses. Games – board, puzzles, or electronic – offer a distraction through focus and simple processes. If you’re highly competitive, try a solitary puzzle or game. If you desire human interaction, grab a board game and a few friends. And of course, there are video games that provide both. Check out your local trivia nights or arcades to add another level of interaction to your game night.
